Sebum does have its good and bad. Too much of a good thing is indeed a bad thing. In moderation, it helps hair by keeping it moisturized and healthy, also protecting it from outside debris and pollution, yet too much will create an environment suitable fo hair loss..

About 5AR Type 1, i am honestly on a fence here. Obviously it still synthesizes T to DHT, so it can be considered "bad" for the average balding joe, yet it also exists in considerable amounts in the brain and liver (as opposed to Type 2).. which surprisingly, only recently that dutasteride was found to be linked to higher chances of diabetes, higher cholesterol, NAFLD / liver enzymes and insulin resistance. It may have been due to its inhibition of 5AR Type 1( which again, exists in considerable amounts in the liver).

If scalp sebum problems are very severe, Nizoral could help quite alot, or better yet, even low-dose Accutane would pack a punch and has higher rates of success than solely relying on inhibiting 5AR Type 1, but that might be just me.
I hear accutane can cause hair loss. You think a low dose of that would be safe?

Indeed, since the hair loss resulting from the use of (high dose) Accutane can be either attributed to the toxicity of Vitamin A, or the severe lack of sebum (or both). A low dose could act as a "balance" of sort, reducing sebum while not killing your liver and lips with isotretinoin.

Edit : when i say "low dose" i mean anywhere from 5 mg all the way to 20-30 mg. It depends on your weight and the bigger you are, the higher the dosage.

Do you know anyone who has tried this?

So I just discovered that cyproterone acetate will actually drop your estradiol but I've been unable to find concrete numbers and I'd like to know if it's a trade-off worth taking.

Thats why I wouldn't recommend it. You can't take it for the long term, it will lower all your sex hormones and thus leading to other health issues.

Not worth it, my personal opinion tho.

I do wonder if you can supplement E while taking cypro.

It's probably possible to cycle this stuff without permanent alterations in hormones. Like with bodybuilders/athletes and steroids.

Do you know if there is some way to determine if "sheds" are a sign that a treatment is working vs a sign that a treatment isn't working?
Very generally, I would think that weaker/shorter/unhealthier strands could be a good sign as they might be getting stimulated to regrow back healthier. If most of the hairs being shed are some of your best, I would consider that a red flag.

Sheds follow the introduction of a new med or meds. Basically, from what I understand, the follicle base becomes wider which is a good thing but the current hair encounters inflammation from this and is shed. There also appears to often be a synchronization of all scalp hair in terms of anagen phase.

It took 20 days of using Bicalutamide. It seems my skin is producing less oil. I would not say that it has become dry, but it has become closer to normal skin. Hopefully over time, the fat will decrease even more. So Bica works

So, 2.5mm roller bought from Cosmetics Megastore for $17 including shipping and no tax apparently so score! I will provide feedback on the 2.5mm gauge.

@Janey Elizabeth
I am 53 years old. Was about a Noorwood 3 - 3,5 about a year ago. I have been using 1.25 mg finasteride and minoxidil topically for many years, but this has not resulted in any new growth. However, 2.5mm microneedling in conjunction with topical minoxidil / finasteride has been very effective for me for the last 3 months. In addition, I also dripped 5mg Minoxidil (4 drops 5% solution) directly into my mouth every day, which certainly contributed to this success. I treated the entire top of the head with my Dermapen every 2 weeks for about 15 minutes.
Even where I only had thin vellus hair for almost 15 years, terminal hair started to grew again after a few 2.5 mm microneedling treatments with my Dermapen, which has an optical effect and thus I gained about 1 Norwood step in the forehead and corner area the last 3 month.
My other hair on the vertex has also gotten thicker. Microneedling with 2.5mm is painful but has fully paid off!

Thank you for that. You are doing the minoxidil just like me. I recently went down to ~6.25mg of the drops. It's hard to believe that so little can do so much. Even one drop daily of minoxidil can make a big difference. My device should be here tomorrow. I actually found 2.0mm to be less painful than the smaller gauges which may be because you don't press as hard. My scalp always was sore the next day but not any longer. Dont' forget to do your face as that can be miraculous as well for taking years off your face. DR is sensation for scar tissue which I had a lot of. I really appreciate you reaching out and I hope to see and hear more about your situation.

I have been asked by a French native if any of you have a good source for ordering Duta. My guys only sell finasteride. He says that it is hard or impossible to get en France.
