I don't think he was comparing our situations, just saying that it's hard to meet new people in Scandinavia. My situation is hard, but everyone is unique here and we all have different problems - apart from hair loss, which unites us. It's not all dark and gloomy for me either, I have my own place and a job, a dog that I love and an amazing family. I also have a few good friends that I like to hang out with. I do art and photography and enjoy fashion. I'm not bad looking either. The fact that I have some health issues is something I have to deal with every day, even though some of my issues come and go. But I can walk, see and talk so I consider myself ''lucky'' Please don't pity me because I'm strong enough to handle it (barely).

No pity -- pity is for people with no options, like those with terminal illnesses or who are missing four limbs due to a bomb. At least that's how I use the term.

In other times, respect, understanding, compassion, or inspirational might mean more depending on the context

Find a hobby that you actually enjoy, rock climbing, chess, sailing, yoga, whatever.

From there you will interact with others, and even if you're socially reclusive, over time you will get to know the people and will also have something to talk about.
