We don't cross species for a reason in nature...it's harmful to cross species because risk of interbreeding between species that are not meant to produce an offspring, the offspring wont have the right mix of chromosomes I would think.
It happens out in the wild but it's extremely rare.
Same genders within a species, they are not going to breed so it's not a danger to nature. It's just 'humping' or inserting--nothing is getting fertizlied.

i am talking about the animal kingdom as a whole in nature, not just humans.
some species are close enough genetically and can in captivity 'breed' but in wild this is rare and don't turn out well...the 'Ligers' for instance I think would probably never happen in wild. This is a captivity thing. Also don't know if they are doing this via mating or insemination.
