I hate commercials

They exist, but its mainly just the bald guy being cast as a loser but it also applies to fat people ect.

Can't recall any adverts like that either really. That stuff mainly goes on in TV shows I find.

I saw a commercial recently for some breath mints where this guy walks into an elevator with all these "undesireable people". Amognst them is this bald guy with his horseshoe showing but he is dressed like a disco jiggalo, totaly ridiculous. Then the guy pops the mint in his mouth sending this shockwave throuhg the elevator, flattening everyone. The elevator hits his spot and on his way out he gives this smart *** look to the bald guy as his flat bald head peels off the wall. Just another example of how the media makes the bald guy the jackass.

I just saw the ad for some new camera. They have Ashton Kutcher in it. Anyway in the ad he is in a dinner party, taking photos. He takes a photo of a balding man and then goes to some girls and shows them while zooming in on his head while they all laugh....

If that wasn't bad enough in the end of the ad he is prancing by this balding guy talking to a hot chick, when he walks by she ignores the balding guy and gives this 'OMG IM WET' look his way. :shakehead:

I see your point to some extent but I think you're looking a bit too deeply into it.

The Midland Bank Vector one simply features a sterotypical looking bank manager - Who is middle aged and happens to be bald. His baldness is of no relevance. There's also a guy with a full head of hair, yet it's the bald one who's more assertive and portraying being in a higher position. Nothing wrong with that ad at all.

The others feature one guy with a comb over and the other with a wig, which are universal reasons for ridicule - It's not so much the fact that he's bald but the pathetic attempt to hide it which makes him a loser.


The piano player is portrayed as creepy, yes. - Although looking at him he'd be just as wierd with hair. - But that's the one which I think backs up your point the most.

Obviously the Carling Ad and the Hamlet ones are comedic, but it all ads to the negative stereotype of baldness even guys who dont combover or wear bad wigs are indirectly connected to these negative characters.
I can remember when the baldy man sketches were on tv in the 80's and seeing kids at school talking about bald teachers (without combovers) being 'baldy men'. Combover or not that whole character is used to ridicule bald heads.


Its not like I believe that they sat down and said lets get a bald guy and make him look bad, but the fact is when they were casting for the 'fall guy / stooge' in these ads they would have had a choice of a few actors and they picked bald guys.
As UCman has mentioned before its rare to see an ad where the positive character is bald.

Most of the these commercials are making fun of the fact that the guys are trying to cover their baldness by bad wigs or combovers. This one is blatantly saying if you're bald or balding you're ugly and it's socially acceptable to make fun of you.

That one is quite bad, not as bad the description Night gave though where I imagined the whole ad was centred on taking the piss out of this bald guy.

yea ashton should be a little more sympathetic to balding since about 4 years ago, his face was plastered all over gossip sites and magazines with the banner "Is Ashton Going Bald". Funny thing how you can't find those blog site articles these days since Kutcher clearly lowered his hairline during his time away from the spotlight.
