I think women don't like the idea of back ups as they often seem to have some fantastical and idealized notion of love which they obtain from romantic movies/novels. Also, men keeping back ups means loss of power for women, hence they hate it. We non-white-knight men often are more realistic and see love for what it is, a business transaction and temporary surge in dopamine. Basically a means to an end to spread our sperm and mate with the highest quality egg.

It's not absolute, women tend to be more manipulative than men to get what they want.

Since as men, we don't have the advantage when it comes to manipulation and a lot of other factors in a relationship, we'd better be practical and always make sure that we use any advantage that we can have.

That includes keeping back ups.

The moment a woman knows that you're all she has, bad things are bound to happen.

It works both ways of course, I always need to make sure that I'm better than my competition.

That's how healthy relationships are built. I don't recommend obvious and childish moves like "I'm seeing an ex-f*** buddy tonight, you can trust me!" or flirting with other girls in front of her, that's just partner abuse.

Yes I learned long ago that you have to play the game. I have no problem looking after myself and my looks anymore, this I can keep up with.

I think there are things you tolerate and things that are deal breakers.

My ex gained 15lbs and that didn't fuss me, but when she quit uni to work in care it just became a deal breaker as she was setting her life up to live on a low income (I grew up poor and never want to live like that again)
