Thanks for the quick response. I also have 1 more question. Why not Revivogen to replace the DHT Inhibitor which you lost once you got off Propecia? And have you experienced any more hair falling out?

Re: Tried them all! finasteride, foam, Tricomin, prox, nizoral, spironolactone

So I have lurked around these forums and come to the conclusion that propecia is going to be a last resort, and does not seem worth risking the side effects. It seems that you hair loss is similar to mine and I was wondering how exactly do you apply your topicals. I am going to order the 5% minoxidil and am curious how you apply yours. My hair is thinning around the temples and front so just apply to those areas? before the hairline and rub into hairline, or all over the hair and rub it in? I am trying to keep shedding to a minimum. Also, how do you apply the spironolactone, and is the nizoral basically a necessity for the ichy scalp/dandruff that goes along with using minoxidil?

I drain out the bottle of 5% minoxidil and put it into an old tricomin bottle, which has a sprayer. I pull my hair back, spray, and rub it in. For the spironolactone, I just rub it in. Simple as that.

I believe nizoral is a necessity. Also, I believe my specific nizoral regimen makes a lot of sense. 2% on mon, 1% on wed / fri, head and shoulders on tues, thurs, and the weekend.

Hey Inland, I can't use finasteride and i was thinking about just riding it out normal, but this may have inspired me to try your approach!

I was just wondering couple of things... is it right that you're not using the tricomin shampoo/conditioner? only the spray?? From what i gathered you're using nizoral as your main shampoo. Unfortunately for me nizoral really dries out my hair and gives it a straw like texture so i might try Revita as a keto substitute.

Finally i've heard a lot of people saying not to pick up minoxidil since it only delays the inevitable for a year or so and then male pattern baldness starts back up with the continued hassle of applying/buying minoxidil. just wondering your thoughts on this since you've used it for so many years.

thanks!

I've used the tricomin shampoo / conditioner for quite a while, and it's the same thing as the spray (meaning the same ingredients), just in a shampoo and conditioner. IMO it has no additional benefit than just using the spray.

For the idea that minoxidil only delays, I completely disagree. I believe for some people it takes over a year just to start working.

Re: Tried them all! finasteride, foam, Tricomin, prox, nizoral, spironolactone

Hey inland, great story just read through the thread.

I'm also stopping Propecia but after only 6 months. I didn't get too bad of side effects, but like you mention I have a feeling I've been somewhat under-minding them and don't want any long term problems.

My hairloss was fairly similar to yours, basically just receding at the temples when I started a routine.

My initial plan was to go with S5 and Rogaine Foam in the morning and Revivogen at night. I've had problems with Revivogen making my scalp dry, so I might just try the S5, Rogaine, and a Copper Peptide product.

I've also used Folligen cream for the past 8 months or so. I like it, but with a new routine I'm not sure if I could fit it in. I might try Folligen Spray (similar to Tricomin, just more concentrated).

If your looking for a good shampoo and/or conditioner skinbiology's is good (called folligen shampoo & conditioner). I've used it for awhile and prefer it over nizoral.

Couple questions:
What do you use to style your hair?

I'm concerned about my morning application of S5 and Rogaine (& possibly folligen spray) because I have medium length hair. But I could easily go shorter and use a gel, etc if it makes it less noticeable.

From there, have you ever noticed different results if applying S5 to close to a growth stimulant like Rogaine or Copper Peptide?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. For your question about styling, I use nothing. My hair is naturally kinda greasy and wherever it dries, it seems to stay.

I have never noticed any difference with timing of S5 and anything else. That is besides using minoxidil after S5, which creates a horrendous smell. Right now at night I'm applying minoxidil right after tricomin, then S5 >15 min later. I started adding another application of minoxidil in the morning, just because.

Thanks! Yes that is correct. But you forgot about my nizoral / head and shoulders regimen:
nizoral 2% on mon, nizoral 1% on wed and fri, head and shoulders tues, thurs, sat, sun

Tricomin is applied just after drying hair with a towel. minoxidil right after.

Just a side note - the 2 in 1 head and shoulders smells fantastic and adds a lot of volume, I love it.

Re: Tried them all! finasteride, foam, Tricomin, prox, nizoral, spironolactone

Just went through the whole 14 pages of the topic. Probably the best one i've seen, good work Inland!!!

Long story short, i've been on and off proscar for the last 3 years... i stopped taking it recently only because i couldn't find the container i keep all the pills in. in the 2 weeks that i've stopped taking it, i'm more focused, have been training like a warrior, f##king like a p0Rn star, not as stressed and strangely enough and i don't sweat as much... i feel better without it!!!

so, i'm thinking i'm almost more than happy to not go back to it.

i'm a Norwood 3 (almost 4) and have been able to maintain a pretty good scalp, albeit the hairline (vertex/temples) has been my biggest challenge.

i havent tried S5 or its counter-parts, but i've ordered it in and hoping for the best. i'm also ordering in tricomin.

my regime has changed from whats listed, and will update it shortly.

So, throwing it out there, do i stop finasteride once and for all??? or is that a stupid question?

Again, nice work Inland and all the best to everyone else!

Ihead - sounds like you had some of the nasty sides. If you feel better, give it a shot. Even though I hate finasteride, I have to give it some credit because it got all my hair back and now I am at least maintaining without it. Can't say I would be this far if I started with only topicals. So you may be the same way and could maintain with a few topicals.

I think the sides i experienced where noticeable within the first month of takin finasteride, but levelled out after takin it for some time. i just felt better coming off it...

yeah, i think i've taken it long enough to make a difference and now i can start going down other paths... if i can find reason (and money) to reconstruct my hairline with a hair transplant, that would be my favoured option.

thanks inland.

Getting my haircut today so I thought I'd post some pics. I got my hair cut about a month ago, it has been growing really fast.

Hi inland! Wow!! :bravo: read part of your post and am intrigued in getting a head start on some type of hair loss treatment. Currently am experiencing mild receding of the temples. I was wondering what you believe my best option would be. I am really skeptical about starting propecia with all of the long term side effects you have pointed out. But would it be beneficial to start with 1/2 propecia with tricomin, nizoral 1%, and for the temples use of rogaine foam. Or just start with nizoral 1%, tricomin, and rogaine foam for the temples. What would you think about 2% nizoral. I have not started any type of medication and would like to find a starting point to ease into.

Mellowp - You can start adding minoxidil 5% to your thin spots, and use nizoral shampoo. I use 2% once a week and 1% twice a week.

I dont even know what advice to give about finasteride. For most people, its great. For others, its horrible. The only way to find out is to try.

Re: Tried them all! finasteride, foam, Tricomin, prox, nizoral, spironolactone

Thanks for the quick reply inland. I have ordered the nizoral 2% and will try the tricomin as well. I didn't know you were using s5 cream.

I have a couple questions :innocent:

So my main concern is my temple region. Would you recommend trying the s5 cream being that i can apply more towards the temples, or maybe start with a low dosage of 1mg of proscar as the cheaper alternative to propecia? Being new to this, I would like to try hair loss products that have the least side effects, but would help with my temples as well.

I mentioned minoxidil, but one reason I don't want to try minoxidil yet is because of the dependency I will have on it in the long run and the expense associated with Rogaine foam. How greasy/inconvinient is the kirkland minoxidil being that it is a little cheaper.

Thanks and congratualtions again

Re: Tried them all! finasteride, foam, Tricomin, prox, nizoral, spironolactone

Well first, kirkland minoxidil is cheap as hell. Search amazon for it. One time I got a 3 month supply for 30 bucks. Second, there is no dependency with minoxidil. It works for as long as you use it. If you stop, it doesn't have reverse effects. Lastly, s5 is your best bet if you want the least chance of side effects. Just make sure you apply minoxidil, wait for it to dry, then add s5. I just dont have it in me to recommend finasteride to anybody.
