I've never looked them up on instagram. Martin Berkhan has a very informative blog which is very influential, GOG has a lot of instructional youtube videos.

You can look up their workout programmes and let me know if they're missing key muscle groups. Berkhan has actually made fun of the concept of "ab day", he says that if you're working out properly you will automatically work out your abs in the other exercises. He has tremendous abs himself as a proof of concept.

Here's Berkhan's article "fuckarounditis", it's widely considered one of the best articles on bodybuilding ever written:
http://www.leangains.com/2011/09/fuckarounditis.html

I'll check it out later. About to be busy for a bit

I don't know how those guys started, but the fact is they both have many clients and followers who follow their similar programmes and do very well. .

Fair points and all but even below par personal trainers still get clients and often even give an online presence of doing very well.

Of course your examples are hugely successful but at the same time, they're always going to have some success stories, and once they've built a convincing presence they're always going to get more people buying in. Most of this fanbase won't dedicate themselves fully anyway and keep buying in for more tips.

I'm not saying what they're advising won't work inevitably, and anyone who looks after their nutrition already won most of the battle, but Im not convinced it's the fastest track to build muscle in your first year or 2 of training.

The living proof that it is all about having good genes to start with. Results are directly linked to an underlying potential. Without that, you can train as much as you like, you'll look like sh*t and waste time without noteworthy gains.

For example, if I tried your workout routine for 1-2 years, I'd look the same as before, as if I never even tried anything, I'm sure of it.

Kj's bodybuilding genes are not elite. He puts in tremendous effort into his workout and has an above-average diet.

Honestly I don't know what is the "optimal" workout routine and I doubt anybody knows quite frankly. I'll stick with the argument that weightlifting 3x/week is enough to comfortably be in the top 5%, assuming you already have your BF% down.

I guess everyone's different, I felt less progression at 3.

I did just remember seeing a GOG video (I actually haven't watched many but probably binged one day) on how it took him a good 6 years to see any results. Now I can't remember if it was the 3 day that changed it, or diet or what, but I'd understand if he said the 3 day anyway, it's kind of his USP.

Of course it's possible the longer rest periods made it click for him.

Assuming you can actually do ~3x/week though.

I had finally started a routine again ... and then my gym closed for two weeks.

And then I had finally started a routine again ... and then my surgeon asked me not to lift weights for a few weeks.

I can't get any f*****g momentum going, it's frustrating.

Are you getting laid?

;-)

Unfortunately no. Anyway, I'm back. The task did not take nearly as long as I expected

Elite genes would be like that dude peapoddy, if he truly is natty as he claims. I could never reach that level of mass without PED's, although I guess he could become my personal trainer and try to prove me wrong

At this point I've put in over a decade of work. Initially I was a very hard gainer. To give you an idea, when I graduated high school, I weighed about 115 lbs. Over that next year, when I made my first significant gain of mass, I was literally getting up in the morning and stuffing my face with pancakes, bagels, and pastries until I felt like I might throw up, and that was just the first of several meals throughout the day

At this point I can more or less maintain my mass with minimal workouts, but continued progress seems to require massive volume and complete destruction of certain muscle groups, for example my vastus lateralus, the part of the quad that actually makes the thighs looks huge, and has always been one of my problem areas. I've finally been making some noticeable progress on it over the last several months. I've had to pretty much cut out cardio just to be able to work out legs enough

at the wedding there was this tall (6'2") NW1 handsome guy that you could tell had the attention of the women there. For some reason he kept wanting to talk to me, especially when he was drunk. Wedding night he and I were outside, and with a very drunk inflection he said,

"ok...so...so there is a girl here who wants me to have sex with her while her boyfriend watches... wha..wha would u do?"

"do you have a girlfriend?"

"yes, but we have only been dating for four months. she is like the best thing ever"

(scrolls through his phone and shows me pics of a gorgeous woman and texts that say things like, "I miss you! can't wait to see you and ride your face ;) xoxox)

I lost it on him. seriously. I haven't even kissed a girl in over 9 months, and here is this priviledged piece of sh*t about to cheat just because he can.

Noob gains are easier than you would expect. You could double your strength in a year on the majority of lifts easily with 2x full body sessions per week if you get in about 80g of protein and at least 3000 calories for the average person.

No, they're not. I'm a skinny ectomorph with narrow shoulders and small wrists, for example, I couldn't get any result even in years of training, or with any crappy supplement or steroids.

narrow shoulders!

Efron's face looks odd in the recent movies I've seen of him. My friend was telling me it's from roids?

That wouldn't work with me. I can easily eat 3,000 calories in pancakes, bagels, and pastries, plus it's expensive, and then I'd be hungry by lunchtime.

Last Saturday I had an indulgent breakfast of two chocolate chip pancakes, scrambled eggs, and hash potatoes. It was awesome.

I skimmed the article. No major criticisms off the bat. Definitely a very good physique from the photos of him available, mostly due to extremely low body fat % at moderately high level of muscle mass

I'm curious as to what percentage of his clientele/disciples share a similar physique. This imo would be the telling factor as to how much of his stuff is worth making a pillar of your bodybuilding approach

A couple things: This is a very controversial opinion I hold, (I think @shookwun shares my opinion on this), deadlifting is an extremely overrated exercise for aesthetic development. Lots of energy output for a movement that isn't going to progress you towards your goals imo
Also, ab day. People can talk all the sh*t they want. I do at least 1 core only day a week, and it's 100% worth it for me. Weighted crunches, weighted planks, weighted leg raises = bulky, popping abdominals

I agree with @Rudiger that we need a fitness thread. I would like to post some of my workouts. I actually made one some time ago but I think it got lost in a data rollback or something
