I first learned the trick when I was ~20. A classical musician told me to go for a run the mornings of my exams. I did that and my grades went up.
Now, I try to work out, sleep well, and be otherwise relaxed when either going to important job interviews, important dates, or important exams back in the day when I still had exams.
It is mistaken to assume that the PUA community invented the notion that being laid back and in a good mood is helpful.
I did martial arts briefly when I was 19. The instructor told me my problem was that I was too uptight (I was ). Did he learn about this from PUA websites? No. In life it's valuable to relax, and exercise, meditation, and/or massage are known ways to achieve this.
I tried Ritalin a few times, it didn't really impact me much. Last time was nearly 10 years ago.
Prozac and wellbutrin I was on long-term, I didn't notice much difference and I quit them cold turkey and was fine.
Trazodone gave me harder erections, dry mouth and a good sleep (common side effects).
Strattera gave me incontinence, larger balls, smaller dick, improved concentration, and decreased appetite. I stopped using that quickly and the effects went away soon after. It wasn't fun, though I wish I could have kept the improved concentration and decreased appetite, holy sh*t. I lost 10 lbs like it was nothing.
Right now I am on zero psychologically-specific drugs, and it's been that way for a while.
Part of the reason for antidepressants is that we're forcing people to be happy, when often depression is a rational response to realizing that one's prospects are grim. They're even giving antidepressants to kids now ... I think counselling and intervention by other means would be helpful.

In other words let her do some of the work, let her be the one to emotionally invest some effort. That's the way it sounds to me.

This is my take:
Unfortunately a woman who is not attracted to you will never have sex with you only because you act cool and sh*t.
At the same time, you can shoot yourself in the foot IF she finds you somehow attractive but you talk like a psycho and shiver because you are anxious.
I think a good idea that one can grab from the PUA BS is that you should always try and present your best self.

You should show up to your next hot date and be unshowered for several days, wear dirty clothes that don't match and don't fit, chew with your mouth open, pick your nose, don't take care of your halitosis, and so on.

Yes. I find it weird how guys think there are cheat codes you do use to get women. As a man I know I would never think of having sex with a woman I'm not attracted to. No matter what she does. Why do some men think women can be tricked into sex?

As a man I know that personality has been important to me in the past.
Some women might not care about looks but they are attracted to certain personality traits that you can't fake, they aren't generic, there is no cheat sheet.

But you won't, deep down inside you know that stuff matters and you'll keep doing some/all of it. Which is the right move for job interviews, dates, presentations, and examinations.

By the way changing your brain hormones via mediation, etc. is not "faking" personality, it's an actual change in personality.
That's basic taking care of yourself. None of that stuff has anything to do with women, just having respect for yourself.

You don't actually need to wear clothes that match and fit well, or to take care of your halitosis, or to cut your nails that regularly.
People do these things much more regularly than they otherwise due to fashion pressures, not due to health pressures.
If you're walking around at home and not seeing another soul, you might be wearing sweat pants or jeans that don't really fit and a random tshirt that doesn't match.
There's no serious medical benefit to chewing with your mouth closed.

yeah clinical anxiety/Depression is no joke. Until you actually experience it, you think its an excuse people use or they should just snap out of it or just calm down. I thought that way until it happened to me. Today im well For the most part. clean from heroin 5 years and have my anxiety in check For the most part. It still reeks havoc on me from time to time though. Hope all is well with you. I feel For anyone who has gone through anxiety and depression because like you say, it truly can be pure torture

Table manners, hygiene, good clothing (like a peacock), proud behaviour, et cetera will likely be attractive to women as they are markers of something extremely important: socioeconomic class. You can only pull them off well if you are of that world, otherwise it will come off as fake and be transparently so in short order.
I posted a few days ago that on OkCupid, white men are more attractive than minority men of all other races. That's a good example of women instinctively preferring a trait statistically associated with higher social class. They see tens of thousands of people in their lives, and the traits most associated with greater status, they end up finding more attractive.
There's very little reason at to chew with one's mouth close. To cut your nails once a week rather than every two weeks (depends on your growth rate, mine grow fast so I cut them regularly). Holding a knife with your right hand is slightly more functional than using your left hand, but most North Americans prefer holding a fork with their right hand and using it as each of a fork and spoon and knife, giving away that they are of lower social class. What these additional rules do, and they have no intrinsic social utility, is that they communicate social class.
This also applies to job interviews. If you are well-dressed and you present well, you communicate that you are a potential leader.
@xetudor, @Vincent777, thanks for helping me clear up my thinking. I now view these additional gimmicks purely as a means to communicate higher socioeconomic class, I think that's what's going on. The degree of effectiveness will largely depend on how genuine it is, if it's completely faked it's extremely unlikely to have an impact.

but I think humans in general for eons, have mashed their footprints over and over this dangerous territory you correctly pointed out long before innocent, frisky Fido was ever served his first shot,

I basically agree that most of what happens in your sexual interactions is defined by your genes. Science shows that women take just 180 seconds to reckon if they like you. And they do NOT change their mind
