It's certainly not cultural differences. Like some white people would talk about just about the most boring things like how they did their laundry on Saturday to their peers but in a room full of minority people they'd be silent as fuk. Almost like they are socially awkward or something.

I think the reason many white Americans do that is as a coping mechanism to avoid discussing controversial topics. It's an artificial mechanism to remain polite, just talk about the laundry or about the weather.

If you start discussing politics, or anything on which somebody might have an opinion, there's a risk that somebody will be offended. So some people avoid those topics like the plague,

"ummmmmmm ! the weather is so nice today !!!!!!!!!!!"

It makes me sad that Indian Emigrants are suffering from racism.

This people do not represent India.
Many Indian People are strongly against Emigration.
Here, people strongly dislike the Idea of citizens of India settling abroad, studying on Indian people's hard earned money.
India called this phenomenon as "Brain Drain".
India spend huge amount of money to teach this people(IIT,IIM,central Institutions) and this people leave for another nation, making country at a loss.Later, this people are called Browns.

In medical field, its mandatory for doctors to sign a Bond to do service to the nation or pay HUGE fine to government for moving abroad.Right now,its 35/50 lakh INR(approx.$ 100,000).

When Donald Trump was elected as US president, almost all people of India had no issue with his decision of H1B problems because people here are already against brain drain.
Only those who live with Idea of grass is greener on other side will suffer from this.

Many international scientists from India (and China) end up going back to their home countries, building up the knowledge base there.

I've met a lot of south and east Asian scientists everywhere I've been, many go back or plan to go back.

Admittedly, China is doing a better job.

If you send 20 people to Harvard where the American taxpayer funds their education, and 10 come back, that's a major victory.

ETA: Meanwhile, American science can also be described as weak, as it's dependent on East Asian and South Asian graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to function.

Racism is the idea that all people of a race possess certain, usually negative, traits. Just believing that some, or even a majority, possess these traits is not necessarily racist. It might be bigoted, then again it might be true, thus I don't think it's fair to say it's necessarily racist.

So someone who thinks it's the culture that is fucked up, is likely not racist, when they see someone they will try to ascertain whether they are a part of that culture or whether they are like their 'different' friend.

As usual I might just be overly pedantic, but people often use this misuse of the word 'racist' to counter coinciding arguments.

OR maybe sometimes you have a black or brown person who is 'self hating' there own skin color and cultural background who looks up to white people as if they are superior in looks and culture, befriends a lot of white people and so on. So they have a lot in common from that standpoint.

I agree with this - India should fight to keep its most educated citizens.

The problem is that there are far too many people in India than jobs available. Also, thanks to affirmative action, educated people from general caste are discriminated against. I don't have the current numbers but back then when I was there 75% of government jobs were reserved for low caste people and the remaining 25% was fair game to apply for everyone including the low caste people. Once you exclude the reserved job quotas for army personnel's/members of parliaments/bribes etc, you were only left with 10-15% of job positions. Can you imagine applying to a job where 85% of vacancies were already going to be filled from a group of people you don't belong to?

Saurabhs complain about people leaving India after receiving government subsidized education doesn't apply to someone like me. My entire education was paid by my father. Right from 1st grade to all the way to bachelors. I don't owe anything to the government of India. In fact as far as education is concerned, I owe more to America. I received various scholarships in my undergrad due to my high grades. In fact, when I started undergrad, I was instantly given in state tuition despite being from another country due to my high SAT score. I have even gotten job offers from the state of Oklahoma. No one cared about my caste. The only thing they cared about was my qualification.

You see I'm not saying these people are not horrible, or even that they mightn't profile people of a certain race. But if they view their problem as a problem with a certain culture, and not a problem with a certain race, then calling them racist is both inaccurate, and only makes them discredit any further criticisms you have about them.

Every time I peeped into the_donald, or ventured on other extreme right-wing forums, I'd see them do this constantly. They'd point out someone misusing the word racist, and (incorrectly) use that as some sort of backup of their belief that that person is wrong about everything else.

There are many Fields where relationship is helpful to both parties like advanced education or technology.
Many western International companies are located in India ,they need a highly qualified local people(legal laws),in that case its okay and should be acceptable.
One guy of my caste is working in Google. He did his post graduation from Insead.

I'm skimming this because at work

Here is my thoughts on racism and i said it earlier i think in thread

the word has a very broad definition.

And part of my major fight with PJ was he wrote something..and i said 'what you wrote is racist' and he flipped out called me ignorant yada yada yada blocked me (which is preferable as i think he is a dick)

So its not that people are not racist its that the word in scope is very broad and people assume you mean a Nazi shoving people into ovens when mostly its an intollerencet to cultural differences.
So he made earlier in this thread a ridiculous statement tasty he has not experienced any racial issue (dont know his exact wording) in 12 years he is here---and i call 'bullshit' its not racist to him probably because he is on board with their same mind set.

My further point on this months ago when i fought with him..and still today--that is fine in other countries..You are in Ireland if you got a sudden influx of Eskimos like 1 million of htem--i wold understand your intolerance to Eskimos and their igloos and their whale hunting etc..(I'm being silly but you understand) BUT in USA we are a nation built on immigrants we are supposed to be a melting pot of different cultures..who co exist with each other..to say 'well i don't like Black people because they 'fill in blank'' is still racist but who cares..BUT when you start to enact policy to harm them--then that is kind of fucked up because its saying the white Americans are more important then the Back Americans because 'xyz'.

I dont expect any other country to be as tolerant of cultural differences as USA should be (within sane reason of course)

And a lot of what white people dislike about black people--you can say about a lot of whet people as well. LOL so why culturally get pissed at black people when you own 'race' is doing same sh*t.

Sorry for any misspells or jumbled sentences but i think gist is made clear.Hope

Everyone has a token black or brown friend who is 'different' from rest and reassures them they are not racist and its the other cultures that are fucked up.
*sigh*

This is so true. I have friends like that who literally feel offended just because they have me and a black girl as friends and people call them racists. Then they would go on and joke about my Asian family and think "just kidding!" would disguise their inner racism.
I constantly have people ask me if I eat cats and dogs. I don't. When I ask them what makes them think cats and dogs are more superior than pigs and pigs deserve to be eaten, they could not find a legitimate reason that I couldn't counter argue with.

Some even asked me if I prefer my white family or Asian family.

I'm so tired of the society sometimes.

Yeah I have close friends like that. They are certainly not bad people but I don't understand why they want to stress that they have mostly just white friends like it'd be a loser to befriend any other race.

I don't think how anyone can justify for a "problem with the culture" unless it's a humanity issue.

Racist posters target Chinese community in campus buildings
Published on April 4, 2017 at 12:06 am

Opening Paragraphs said:
Update (2:48 p.m.): UT President Gregory Fenves announced via Twitter Tuesday morning that the University has identified the student who may be responsible for racist and derogatory flyers that appeared on campus Sunday night.

We identified the student who may be responsible for hateful flyers, are reviewing under hate & bias policy,” Fenves tweeted Tuesday morning.

The flyers, titled “Ethical Lessons to Chinese,” were seen in the Student Activity Center and engineering buildings on Sunday and described a “special” course for Chinese students to learn the integrity of intellectual property and accurate representation on job applications. The flyer claimed that in Chinese culture, it isn’t bad to steal another person’s work or lie on job applications.

I'm not trying to defend whoever said those things to you, but are you sure they don't just try to be funny?
Do you never find 'racist' jokes funny?

Sometimes when people of all kinds of ethnicities say something and I think of a zinger I feel like I should say it. It's just jokes, and absolutely everyone gets joked about sometimes. I get that some people may take it too far and don't know when it's appropriate to joke around about stuff. Bare in mind this isn't jokes "lol ur skin is black" or "lol ur eyes are weird". That's rude and not funny.

Some months ago I was talking to an indian friend and he was talking about when his parents moved here. I asked him if they traveled with a plane or flying carpet. Am I racist too?

I want to live in a society where people are allowed to joke and it isn't 100% serious and PC all the time.

Flying carpet is part of Arab myths, not Indian :D. You should instead have asked if they got here in Pushpak viman(a flying chariot). But Pushpak viman was somewhat similar to airplane.
