Im not seeing a lot of great looking older men unless they are wealthy and taking care of themselves

Men get surgeries too and botox and fillers...lol

its just funny that people dont know this

Dolph Lundgren--looks great...bet he's been seeing Slys Plastic Surgeon over the years just like most of Hollywood men.

I dont see many average working class men aging well.

Is there a rare unicorn that looks good? sure. not often

Its more that wealthy men age well.

men are getting face lifts, eye jobs, fillers, botox and lipo.

they also get muscle implants to replace what they lost with aging.
After shookwun posted Dolph's picture, I googled in other pictures where he had a great many wrinkles and looked every bit his age--still gorgeous to me. It doesn't look like he's turned back the hands of time too much like some women try to do. I don't doubt male celebrities and wealthy men have cosmetic work done. I live in the suburbs. The men and women with whom I interact do not have work done. I will agree the "average working-class men" (not all) I know could take better care of their bodies, but I think their faces look just fine, some handsome, some average. Our worlds are entirely different, though.

I just want to add

If the women of the age group are 18-25 now are more picky about mens looks then when i was 18-25 which it sounds like.

These women are not going to be as open on average to older men who are average looking or average pay check.

They dont sound like they are going to be 'okay' with aging men since it sounds like they are not even okay with men their age group who are average...Im going by what men here post for this..other than what is posted here i have no idea.

Lookism--is going to affect men who are aging more so in the coming years then it has in past or present.

You might be right but most men are taking better care of themselves too so we might collectively age better than the last generation, it remains to be seen. You're definitely right about people in general aging badly not just women, but I think the big difference is in women's bodies versus mens. A man can have the same body at 65 as he had at 18 if he just never gets fat or stops working out, women it's more like 50 max.

People are better looking nowadays than they used to be because everyone is making more of an effort because it's more important, most people go to the gym and watch what they eat etc. I really don't think appearance mattered as much even a few years ago as it does now.

It's a great point.

Initially I agreed that ageing wrinkly men don't lose a lot of sex appeal, and some actually gain it, but this thought conjures up the rare few in our minds, Sean Connery, Dolph, Mads Mikkelsen, etc.

But these are rare cases, let's look at what I consider the 3 big heart throbs of my generation (since the 90's) and Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, they are all holding on to how they looked in their 30's. The wrinkles are not helping.

For an average guy? Without a team of people and possibly millions of dollars of ideas being pumped into how they keep their sex appeal? Getting old is not easy. Wrinkles are not helping.

Still easier than youthful baldness though.

I agree nothing is as bad as youthful balding

I dont even know why it was considered as a comparison unless Teller feels that way because he is very attractive and losing his hair slowly--which possibly is comparable...but most guys lose it fast and young from what i gather.

How do you feel about baldness when you see it among men your own age/younger?

It's a good point not included in this quote, on how men can maintain the same physique for longer than women.

But as far as people being better looking now I mean, this is all anecdotal and I can play devil's advocate and point out that obesity continues to rise, and that doesn't just represent the massively obese but generally the studies reflect body fat percentage going up across the board.

Maybe people want to look as good as possible, but probably it isn't happening. It could be our reverse-psychology nature as humans, we know we want to look an ideal way, but the pressure of doing so makes people want to revolt.

Thats not actually always true about men and their physiques

And I would caution men depending on your genetics and your parents--don't get sucked into assuming you can just maintain your weight easily.

I see a lot of men i grew up with who were super skinny get fat in their 40s.

So be careful of getting too complacent about this.

I read the point as being men can maintain their physiques far longer than a woman, easily?

Pretty much if they're aware of doing so, literally a few hours a week isn't much to ask. But a 50 year old woman trying to have the same *** and upper body as when she was 30, that's a lot of dedication.

I don't see many over weight women married to thin, in shape men. Or vice versa.

I usually see over weight couples in mid-life. Or slim couples.

Even if someone is only 20 pounds over weight i usually see the partner is somewhat similar.

Believe me I'm not complacent at all. I have to be bald, but I won't be fat. I need to be the best bald man I can be.

I wish I could just get over baldness and forget about it, I think the perfectionism I have is bordering on ocd. Anyway, I hope I end up with a woman like you or Joan who cares about keeping in shape as they get older. I know you said you'd put on 10lbs but that's nothing at all compared to the average woman your age.

That's the thing that terrifies me about the future and about older women (you might remember I brought this up before), most women don't seem to care at all what they look like past 40 and end up looking like Tony Soprano in a wig and a dress, I think it's because they know if their husband objects to them doubling their body weight they can just raise the spectre of divorce and financially crippling alimony. I wouldn't even really care about the other signs of aging but obesity is repulsive to me.

I'd agree there but again, the point was that it's easier for males to keep their basic shape until late in life, the same shape they had when they were 30.

Well try not to worry about it too much.

I think if that is what is important to you you will find someone who loves exercise and eating healthy.

I always loved to exercise. I eat healthy but i love food i can go side ways if not careful but i have always been that way. I always had to be careful.

I found for me what works best is lean protein, good fats and fruits and veggies...no/low processed sugar and no/low grains the better i do. If i have grains and sugar i try to do it in AM.

Are we talking about average men and women? I dont think so.

I think a lot of men get a big gut...thats not the shape they had at 30..bit guts but skinny arms and legs.

I don't know how else to explain this, it's easier for men to retain their basic shape that they had at a younger age. I'm not saying that they do, I'm just saying it's easier.

A bald person will get flack from men, from women, from children, from work colleagues, from strangers, from close relatives, from their own family... to me it's not close.

Well said. You covered everything there.

A big gut and skinny arms and legs is quite a sexy look on some men.
